27th-May-2009 08:09 am - Go and see Terminator Salvation!
Oddly enough, I wasn't really in the mood to see a movie last night but went with my best buddy to see Terminator Salvation anyway. I WAS GLUED TO THE SCREEN. I didn't even want to get back up to get me something to eat and I was starving. I fell in love with Sam Worthington who portrayed Marcus. One of the best actors I've seen in a long time. Christian Bale also fit the role of asn older John Connor and I had wondered if he would. And I'm so behind on everything that I didn't realize until I actually saw him that Anton Yelchin from Star Trek was Kyle Reese, an excellent choice by the way. I liked the movie enough that I'd love to see it again!
24th-May-2009 08:01 pm - Why is everything so slow?
Curse my slow Internet-that's-not-suppose-to-be-slow-anymore. I've been trying to watch Robin Hood but it's all stuttery and slow and the sound doesn't match.

I have to work tomorrow though most everyone else has the day off, that kind of sucks.
I sit here, consoling myself with a big bowl of dutch chocolate ice cream, because my dear sweet little son hath given me the head cold from hell. I am in doubt that the combination of fever and ice cream will go well together but I'm willing to take my chances. I would be re-reading my latest Amelia Peabody mystery, The Snake, the Crocodile, and the Dog, but my eyes will not focus on the ridiculously small print in the book.

Some kind of weird thunderstorm passed through this afternoon. My co-workers and I had to get in the middle hallway where there are no windows because the town's warning sirens were going off again. It always seems so much worse when you can't SEE anything. I think they are overdoing the warning system, I thought it was just for tornadoes but it goes off for just about anything. I think we'll all become too used to it and begin to ignore it. Not good if there happens to be a real emergency.

Anyway, the mini pond was back in my yard when I returned home and everything else soggy and dripping, which put an end to my plans of flower planting and weeding and digging that I had happily planned for this evening. I suppose it was just as well because it was about that time that I realized that I was feeling funny because I was quickly coming down with this cold/virus thing. It also explains why I was having weird dreams last night and early this morning, I've noticed that usually precedes an illness.
Mother's Day sucked so bad that I can't even find the words to describe how I felt yesterday and today. Let's move on to the next hurdle in life...
If you like Star Trek in any kind of way, go to see the new film! No, it's not perfect and some things are different but it's highly entertaining and will put a smile on your face. I was a fan of the original Star Trek, watched it after school every day when I was very small. I also liked the first couple of movies but then was sporadic in watching the various TV shows. This new movie has certainly revived my interest.:)

Spoilers await...Collapse )
As I have probably said before, I dislike wishing away my days but Friday evening cannot get here soon enough. Work is topsy-turvy, one relative's in the hospital and another confined at home sick (no not with the dreaded flu but some kind of other virus), and my washing machine is begging to be done away with. Oh, the wonders of my magical and exciting life.:)
4th-May-2009 12:30 pm - Writer's Block: How'd You Get Here?
There are many roads to LiveJournal—how did you first hear about LJ?

I first found LiveJournal almost 4 years ago while looking for fanfiction about old favorites, Star Wars and The X-Files, and new favorite, Supernatural.:)
I didn't realize that the weather was going to be so bad today. By 9 AM we had no electricity and tree limbs down all over the yard. We were fortunate to get our electricity back on after only a few hours while some may not have any until tomorrow. I've picked up a lot of debris in the yard, most of the limbs except for one that's too heavy and another that's still partly connected to the tree and won't come loose. I'm not sure if it was a tornado or just wind that did the damage. A neighbor down the road said he heard the wind sounding very strange and he thought it was a tornado. The other side of town was the worst with trees in houses and roofs torn up. Nobody hurt though.

Mild SPOILERS! I've spent the last hour watching the last episode of Robin Hood. I think it may possibly be the best one I've seen yet. Guy gets better each time I see him and the Sheriff and Prince John are easily watchable too. I like the new character of Isabella. I don't mind at all that she's involved with Robin. I never liked Robin and Marian together, mainly because I kept thinking how could she pick Robin over Guy. Now with Isabella being Guy's sister there can still be a rivalry for her but it won't be romantic on Guy's part. I even felt kinder towards Kate.
3rd-May-2009 05:38 am - Writer's Block: You Don't Know Me
Our friends don't always know us as well as they think, particularly when it comes to likes and dislikes. Which popular book, movie, band, food, TV show, etc. would your friends be surprised to hear that you don't like?

Everybody's always talking about the reality shows like Survivor and also the Dancing with the Stars and American Idol shows. I never watch them, I just don't have an interest in them. But my co-workers and friends are always talking about them and it's easier to let them ramble on than to throw them into stunned silence by reminding them that I don't watch these shows.:)
Hey...it's Friday! *claps hands in giddy excitement*

I don't know why I'm so happy about that since I still have the same things to do tomorrow, besides work. I'll just have more hours to do it.

Shrimp for supper! If you were here I'd share!
A friend stopped by work this afternoon to see me, haven't seen him since last fall. He waited until I finished work and then we got sandwiches at a little shop down the street. It was nice talking with him and catching up on what he'd been doing and others we went to school with. I was glad to see him but it kind of made me sad too, remembering old friends and how we're all so busy now that we rarely talk.

I stopped by the library, barely made it in the door before closing time. I'd requested the next Elizabeth Peters books I needed to read and find out they'd gotten one in that they'd borrowed from another library but then sent it back. They said they'd left me a message on my answering machine about it but I never got it and certainly didn't see it on the caller I.D. So either they were mistaken or somebody at home isn't giving me my messages...NOT the first time that's ever happened but I thought maybe that kind of trickery was in the past.:(

Something's wrong with my washing machine. It's not rinsing all the detergent out of my clothes, I can see it and feel it, and I have to run it through another cycle to get it out, taking twice as long to get my clothes done. I can't afford to get anyone to look at it now, I'm hoping I can keep it going until closer to the middle of May.

And Red is already barking tonight. Well, not really barking, just a steady yip, yip, yip that gets on my nerves. He's done that several times recently and I think he's just got into the habit of doing it.

I've seen Star Trek commercials! They look WONDERFUL, I can't wait to see it.:)
25th-Apr-2009 06:32 pm - Writer's Block: LiveJournal Book Club
Out of all of your favorite books, pick just one you'd recommend everyone read. As a bonus: why did you pick that one?

I have SO MANY favorites! It's very difficult to pick just one. I recently re-read Elizabeth Peters' Crocodile on the Sandbank which was the first about her Radcliffe and Amelia Peabody Emerson characters. I first read it as a young teenager and I found it to be just as wonderful as I remembered, I think I had a smile on my face the entire time I was reading it.

Other choices that are shouting very loudly in my head are John Steinbeck's East of Eden, Tad Williams' The Dragonbone Chair, J.K. Rowling's Harry Potter & the Sorcerer's Stone, Mary Stewart's The Gabriel Hounds, Stephen King's Duma Key, and so many, many more.
I am so tired, I swear even my teeth hurt. Early to bed for me tonight.

I've been thinking about Fate of the Jedi: Outcast that I recently read. Rolling it around in my head and trying to decide how I feel about it. I liked it, but then I like just about any of the Star Wars novels, it would have to be extremely bad for me not to like it. More...Collapse )
Arrrrgh...Red barked half the night. I checked on him several times to see if something was wrong, I always keep him in the kennel at night because of the coyotes and because he thinks he's suppose to hunt down every raccoon and possom in the area. He's not sick or hurt and I took him out of the kennel briefly to pee. I looked for ants or anything else odd but didn't find anything, even shone the flashlight around though I didn't go too far from the house. He was either hearing or seeing or sensing something that I couldn't. It was a bit spooky and I left on all the outside lights. But I never did rest good so I expect to be groggy today...
I have been happily re-reading Elizabeth Peters' Amelia Peabody Emerson books. I had almost forgotten how much I loved them before. I'm about a third of the way through The Deeds of the Disturber. I have my fingers crossed that the library has the next few since the only ones I own are more recent ones where Ramses is an adult. I'm determined to read them in perfect order this time and, if I'm not very mistaken, there was one that I completely missed reading years ago so that will be a treat when I read my way up to that one.

We have been preparing for Earth Day at work, getting ready for several different activities and speakers. We all have these hideous green shirts to wear. I like many shades of green but not this very, very bright grass green. I think it makes my skin look sallow.

I have gone overboard on the seafood tonight, baked fish and shrimp, very seasoned, steamed vegetables with a cheesy sauce dribbled over them, a spicy rice dish, and a large salad. Can you tell I was hungry today?
I finally realized that season 3 of Robin Hood has already begun in England so I've been busy looking a new pictures and ready info. I don't mind spoilers, after all it may be several more months before the show airs on BBC America and I'm not a patient person! I've noticed there's quite a difference in reaction to both Robin's and Guy's characters, both of course still grieving over Marian. Apparently, Robin's being an ass more than usual and people either really love or really hate Guy's new look. For myself I highly approve of Guy's new hair and new clothes.:) I'm not looking forward to new character Kate but Tuck certainly sounds interesting.

A friend rented The Changeling, she knows I've wanted to see it, and we plan to watch it tomorrow afternoon after services. I had wanted to go see The Haunting in Connecticut but will have to wait until later in the week.

I've begun a Terry Brooks book but didn't realize it's part 2 of a series. I think I can go ahead and read it, so far it makes sense.

It rained all evening which put a stop to my gardening plans for a few days. I currently have a mini-lake in the middle of my front yard, I could still see it gleaming when I looked out an hour or so ago.

Isn't my life exciting.:)
I actually get to watch The Clone Wars tonight! Usually it's a couple of days before I catch a rerun, I don't often see it the first time.

Last night I was miserable, running a fever and sniffling. I watched Supernatural and all I can say is...WTF, writers?...since I think it was a redo of some 80's or early 90's show. Even Dean and Sam looked kind of lackluster. I was depressed by the time it was over with. Apparently getting old is the most horrible thing on earth and there will be no joy whatsoever in life.

I failed at watching Eleventh Hour and CSI. My body would not cooperate and I fell into a deep cold medicine drugged sleep on the couch.

I could not resist and spent my last dime...well, not really my last dime, there's a load of them in the bottom of my purse...but all my paper money to buy Luke Skywalker and the Shadows of Mindor. I had to. It called to me as soon as I walked into the store to buy a $.99 birthday card for my cousin's little boy. I've already started on it. It takes place after Return of the Jedi and Luke's finding it a bit lonely and stressful being the only Jedi and a General over people old enough to be his grandfather. I've already found one boo-boo. In one scene Luke's described as having a lined face and it's implied he looks older than his age, but then a couple of chapters down the road his face is described as youthful and smooth. Yeah, I know I'm being picky, I just thought it was kind of funny though.:)

A new Clone Wars episode tonight! Dooku gets kidnapped by pirates, can't wait to see how that comes about.

I'm really not feeling too well. After I got home I felt really nauseous and dizzy. Enough that I sat with a cold cloth on my head for a while 'cause I really thought I was going to be sick. After a while it passed though so I've got my fingers crossed it was just a momentary glitch and I'm not coming down with something.
29th-Dec-2008 03:07 pm - Writer's Block: Beyond Our Ken
Whether you believe in the paranormal or not, you've probably experienced something that you couldn't explain. What was it?

I definitely believe that there are things we cannot see or account for in a scientific way. My only experience would probably be at my paternal grandmother's house. It was old and quiet and not near any neighbors. There were always funny cold spots even during the hot summer. And a multitude of noises and misplaced things. I would never stay the night there. It's the only place that I've ever had really uncomfortable feelings about, as if something from the past was imprinted there.
Ah, Sunday, the day of rest. What's your favorite way to spend a Sunday morning?

Usually I always wake up early even if I don't have to be anywhere so I read or watch television. Sometimes I cook something we usually don't have time for during the week. Usually we head for services at 10:00. I mostly enjoy not feeling rushed and everything's peaceful and quiet.
27th-Dec-2008 08:32 pm - My heart's beating way to fast...
I don't know what happened to him but it's WONDERFUL!!!!

Have you ever heard coyotes howling? Real ones, not on TV or the movies. It is one of the most unsettling sounds I have ever heard. The kind of sound that you hear and think can't be real because it is so eerie and you feel goosebumps on your arms and do one of those involuntary shiver things. But anyway, last night at about 11:30, maybe closer to 12:00 I heard them, for the first time in months. There are fields and a few houses across the road from us though you really can't see the houses from here. But they were back over in that area. I got up to make sure our little dog was in the kennel and if the outside cats were sleeping where they usually do on the back patio and they all were. They didn't seem at all worried about the howling but I suppose they may hear it more often than I do or just know that it's nothing that's going to worry them at that particular time.

I drank a little tea and sat down to read a while, actually trying to listen for them to howl again but I didn't hear them anymore. I wonder why they do that? Are they hunting or is it something they do all the time? It sounded like more than a couple of them but I know they don't always run together, in past years we've never spotted more than one at a time. A friend once told me that our eyes don't see most things in our world. I look around our place and I see lots of trees with maybe some birds and the occasional rabbit or squirrel. But there are a lot of animals and creepy crawly things that are hidden from our view. Just something interesting to think about.:)
Well, I must say I went to see Twilight thinking it would be a "teen" movie. I was blown away by it. I wouldn't even get up to go pee because I didn't want to miss anything. Hello new fandom.:)

Then when we left the theater I had to go by the store because I was having an attack of "I must read the book!" and I bought the first two. I finished the last one late late last night and have begun the second.
You know...I have the utmost respect for our new president. He's a fascinating man. But...I do not want his face on my Christmas tree ornaments or my greeting cards. I haven't seen wrapping paper yet with his likeness but I'm sure some exists somewhere.
No more election. I don't agree with all of our new president's views but I do think he is a good man and I'm hoping he can make some inroads into our nation's troubles. I've tried to avoid discussing both candidates with friends and family the past few months, I wanted to decide myself who I would give my vote to. And I've avoided those "Who did you vote for?" people too which is easier said than done.:)

There's a touch of coldness in the air today but it's very welcome. Though we usually don't have a hard winter here, it doesn't seem normal to still be wearing shorts in November. Of course, I have those friends who wear their sandals and flipflops with their other winter clothes. To each his own I suppose but my feet will be covered if it's cold.:)
You know what sucks? Spending my Halloween at a freaking football game I was obligated to go to because my kid was participating in the halftime show. Now don't get me wrong, I usually enjoy watching the games very much. I get my peanuts and my Dr. Pepper and my favorite seat and sit back and relax 3 hours or so. I just knew they'd cancel it. It was Halloween. No treak-or-treaters, no scary movies with the kids, no picture-taking of all the weirdness. Nothing. It's over with and I missed it all.
A friend said something about this, zombie_survival, so I skipped along to read some posts and went "huh???" I think this was one of those things I was better off not knowing anything about. My imagination is too well developed for me to be exposed to logical solutions and history and theories about ZOMBIES. It makes my brain cells run amok.:]
19th-Oct-2007 04:28 pm - Road trip anybody?
Well, we just got back from an unexpected road trip, taking some friends of ours to a new job in Oklahoma. And let me tell you, I have never been in a more desolate looking place. And PLEASE if you are from Oklahoma do not take offense with me saying that but the spot I visited...there was just nothing there. Barren. And the northern part of Texas we went through, you know the part that sticks up when you look at the map (oh, yeah, showing your college education there Linney, who would think you'd had two geography classes), wasn't any better. Maybe it's just me. Maybe I just don't travel well. Maybe I'm too familiar with living green things crawling all over everything and the lack of it just throws me for a loop.
10th-Oct-2007 08:06 am - I don't feel so good
I don't feel good. I think my blood sugar is all wonky today. It has a habit of bouncing too high or too low and I'm suppose to eat small meals of the right kinds of foods spaced out through the day, blah, blah, blah. I'm blaming it all on school driving me crazy and me for being a foolish idiot for taking my ex back.

And I have to go to a wake this evening, no getting out of it cause he's connected by marriage and I don't really want to get out of it but I'm already so DAMN TIRED and it's too early to be tired and I think I need black hose for the funeral tomorrow and the ex has a stain on his white shirt that he'll have to wear cause he's a pallbearer.

And somebody took one of my pumpkins. I had three pumpkins on the front porch and one's gone. Kids deny knowing anything about it. There's no evidence it was "accidentally" busted and done away with. It's just gone. Now who would steal a pumpkin?
5th-Oct-2007 09:03 pm(no subject)
I'm sick and tired of being sick and tired. Wait a minute...I've heard that somewhere else...show...movie...book...aaarggghh, now it'll drive me crazy cause I can't remember.
25th-Sep-2007 08:55 pm - Draco/Hermione fic~~~
Has anybody on my flist read a story called The Dragon's Bride by rizzle? I found it at coloured grey and it has to be the best Draco/Hermione story I've ever read. And I thought I was over my fascination with them! It hasn't been updated in a few months though so hopefully it'll eventually have an end.
13th-Aug-2007 11:35 am - My new community~~~
Come check it out! I've got a new community for my favorite Jedi up and running, lost_foundagain, and it's looking OK and somebody's already posted a story and asked about something. I'm really excited because it's been a LONG time since I tried to run my own community. I checked out a couple of places but ended up back here at LJ. So new journal, new community, now I just need some good userpics. You can see I made one here at LJ but it's kind of fuzzy, though the subject is good! I lost all that I had saved when the Big Crash happened about 3 months ago and haven't collected anymore yet. Plus I never re-installed the photo shop thingy I was using to make my own because I never liked it.

Well, he called again, the ex, EARLY this morning before he went to work. I just don't know. I feel really funny hearing his voice again and somehow everything can sound so intimate over the phone.
11th-Aug-2007 09:25 am - Nitpicky junk~~~
103 degrees...yes, just the kind of weather to go to an outside wedding, don't you think? What can I wear that won't show sweat stains? Seriously, it had better be a quick service and hopefully the food's inside. Surely it would be or I'm not eating it. *Hey, Anne, are you listening?*

I had been signed up for one class at the university on Thursdays evenings but I'm going to drop it. I haven't heard good things about the professor and I'm actually just plain tired of writing papers which is what a big part of this class would be. And I can extend my working hours a couple of days a week and have a better paycheck anyway.

My ex and I are talking. Just talking, nothing else. Yesterday I was excited, today I'm just damn nervous about the whole thing. Sure we had good times but I just don't know if I want to start all that with him again.
